HB 1573 Passes the House and Senate

This Bill, upon signature, would require CMT’s to show their license if requested. Upon Certification, therapists are issued a pocket card as well as a wall certificate.

Also, CMT’s must carry liability insurance. The interpretation of this is awaiting the Attorney General’s office. If you are a member of a professional organization, you are covered.

Unfortunately, the language pertaining to the cosmetology/esthetician profession and massage was removed in the Health Providers Committee and we were unable to reinstate it. Therefore, it is an issue that still needs addressed.

If you are concerned about an esthitician or cosmetologist offering "massage" services in your area, you should contact the Indiana Attorney Generals office at 317-232-6201. Complaint forms may be downloaded at www.indianaconsumer.com . According to their Rules, massage should be offered for skin care only and they should not be treating illness or disease.
